FEBRUARY 2018 AFRICA TOP SCHOOLS AWARDS MAGAZINE

The annual Africa Top Schools Awards held in Lagos Nigeria on Feb. 22, 2018. Unlike the usual ratings using the list of top/ best 1000 schools in the yearly WASSCE O’L exams, two other criteria were added for the 2018 awards: a) record of excellent transition to higher institutions by old students and b) Excellent performance of old students in higher institutions. Schools that received the 2018 Africa Top Schools award were: 1) Christ the King College, Odolewu, Ijebu –Ode; the best overall school in May/ June 2017 WASSCE in Nigeria. 2) Oritamefa Baptist Model Schools Ibadan; the school produced the best number 1 student ( Ms. Isabelle Irabor) and best number 2 student (Mr. Oluwatoni Adekunle) s in the May/ June 2017 WASSCE. 3) The Ambassadors College, Ota; the school produced the number 3 best student in the May/ June 2017 WASSCE. Other schools that received the 2018 Africa Top Schools awards are 4) Presentation National High School, Benin- City; number 1 school in May/ June 2012 WASSCE and top 10 overall yearly since 2012. 5) Nigeria Tulip International School, Isheri, Ogun State 6) Cayley College, Agidingbi- Ikeja. 7) Sagab College, Ikorodu. 8) Cherryfield College Abuja. 9) Khadijah Memorial Academy, Kano. 10) Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School; for effectively combining academics and football. The school won the prestigious GTB football cup in January 2018.
Notable individuals were also celebrated: 2018 Outstanding Schools CEO Award recipients were a) the new President of the Nigeria Catholic Bishops Conference, Most Rev, Dr. Augustine Obiora Akubeze. He is the proprietor of Presentation National High School. b) Mr. Derek Smith, the CEO/ Principal of Olashore International Schools. c) Rev. Dr. Remi Awopegba , the Senior Pastor of Oritamefa Baptist Model Schools and d) Mr. Samson Yomi Osewa , the founder of the Ambassadors College, Ota. The 2018 Distinguished Principal of the year awards were received by: a) Mrs. Olga Igbo of Cherryfield College, Abuja. b) Dr. (Mrs.) Beauty Obodo, the founder of Sagab College, Ikorodu and c) Mr. Ercan Yilmaz of Nigeria Tulip International College, Isheri. The Lagos State president of All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPSS), Mr. Olatunde Adetolu Isaac received the prestigious 2018 Unique Leader in Educational Administration Award.
Many parents from outstanding Primary schools received the Outstanding Parents Award certificate. The orchestra band of the Treasure Stars International Nursery & Primary School, Gowon Estate, Ipaja Lagos entertained the audience. The Lyncrest School IKorodu all participated fully. The award theme lecture ( 21st Century Learning: The Curriculum and Environmental Challenges) were delivered by the trio of Professor Ademola Adeleke, a professor of Curriculum Studies and Science Education of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Mr. Derek Smith and Rev. Fr. Peter Onabamiro, the CEO of Christ the King College, Ijebu- Ode.
